Schlosshotel Velden

The design reacts to the wish for an extended, clearly visible identity of the place, as expressed in the competition announcement, with an ensemble of three building unit groups that form a unified whole with their common language of forms, even if they are not always situated in immediate proximity to each other.
The unique location of the planning area and the distinctive form of the castle building create the appearance of a solitaire entity compared with he surroundings. In the Historicism era extensions were added that give the impression, however, of scattered torsos within the overall complex. This impression is also the reason for surrounding the area with a development that focuses attention on the historical building section. However, this arrangement also has a positive impact on the intended use, particularly as the park area, now enclosed, caters for the idea of seclusion and exclusivity within this lively tourist region.
The centre or starting-point for access to the entire complex is situated in the transition area between the hotel extension and the castle. The main stairs of the new building and the main functional areas of the hotel complex are located along a linear traffic zone. The promenade aspect of this access zone is repeated in the level above, although, on this level, it is assigned not to functional areas but rather to possible visual links to the parkscape and the lake. Towards the road area, both access zones are clearly separated off by the wellness area, that thus marks a distinct dividing line between the park area and the adjoining public space. The façade surface of the wellness area, that is very prominent in the overall appearance of the road, is executed completely in glass, thus not only softening its presence but also affording generous visual links to the lake. This clearly formulated terrain edge modifies the existing topography of the area and creates a level surface in the park area.
The catering areas with terraces in the orangery are also situated in an exposed location facing the lake. The view from this point is also ensured by the positioning of the beach club, that is not aligned along the height line of the former castle bar but rather houses the necessary utility units as a linear ground-floor building.
All the consultants especially the interior designer were appointed by the client.
